Pheasant Feathers

'Pheasant Feathers' is an original fine art scratchboard drawing in black and white. The board size is 6 in x 18 in. The pheasant is a beautiful and colorful bird, and originally, I created a similar drawing as a commission using color. But then, I wanted to create an image just as striking using just black and white. Without the bright colors, the patterns, shapes and variety of the feathers are easier to see. This entire drawing was done with an exacto blade on black scratchboard. Very fine lines were drawn in layers, slowly building up the detail and highlights. Tiny dots were used to bring life to the eyes. Be sure to view the detail images below. Please note that the squiggly line effect is caused by digitizing the image for the internet.
